Bududa Art Villa is not a hotel. It is not a retreat centre. It is a working residency — a place where artists arrive with an idea and leave with something made.
Located in Bududa, Uganda, on the forested foothills of Mount Elgon, the Villa will consist of three private studio cabins, a dedicated art-making studio, and an exhibition pavilion positioned at the top of the plot — oriented toward the mountain, toward the light.
It is being built by Stichting Royal African, a Dutch cultural foundation established in Amsterdam in 2008, under the MoMAA programme — the same institution that has spent fifteen years documenting, appraising, and advocating for African art on the world stage.
We know what serious creative space requires. We are building it here.

Each cabin is approximately 21m² — studio living, private bathroom, kitchenette, and a veranda that opens directly onto the landscape. Dark hardwood. Raised foundation. Designed for solitude, not deprivation.
Three cabins sit mid-plot, surrounded by the site’s existing vegetation. At the summit of the plot: a shared studio and a gallery-quality exhibition space, available to residents for critique, installation, and presentation.
Completion target: 2030.
